FAQs

Frequently asked questions about the library.

Computers on the main level send print jobs to the printer on the main level by default. Payment comes from funds you transfer to your PaperCut account. These computers can also send print jobs to the photocopier/printer on the upper level near the elevator, but you will need a print card to retrieve these jobs. Note: Jobs are printed as soon as they are sent to the default printer.

Your PaperCut account has $5.00 of free printing included. It will allow you to print until your account approaches -$5.00, at which time you'll need to add money to your account.

Yes! We now have wireless printing for the photocopier/printer.

All students have $5.00 of free printing in their PaperCut accounts. The first time you log in, your account balance will read $0.00, but you can print until it reads approximately ($4.96). After that if you want to continue printing you'll need to add money to your account. This can be done by:

  • adding it to your account in your PaperCut account on a computer by using a credit card (see image below),
  • adding it at the kiosk by the copier
    • Insert your card and remove it when prompted
    • Choose: Add Value, then Cash
    • Insert coins, which will then be added to your PaperCut account. Change is available at Borrower Services.
  • purchasing a TopUp card. These cost $5 or $10 and can be purchased at Borrower Services,

PaperCut Account

Yes. The copier on the main level takes coins. Change is available at Borrower Services.

Yes. The library computers are networked to the colour printer on the main level. It costs 20¢ per copy for 8.5 x 11 paper and 30¢ per copy for 11 x 17 paper. NOTE: If you are printing a colour document created on another computer, it's best to save it as a PDF before transferring it to the library computer and then print from the PDF. Doing this helps avoid font, layout, and colour problems.

Double-sided colour printing is also available.

Paper copies are $0.10/copy. Scanning to e-mail is free. Note that it is possible to scan to your e-mail or USB flash drive and then print it from your computer account for $0.06/sheet or $0.03 per side for double-sided copies.

Black and white printing is $0.06 per page, but if you print on both side of the pages, the cost drops to $0.03 per side, in effect cutting your printing costs in half.

Colour printing costs $0.20 per 8.5 x 11 sheet and $0.30 per 11 x 17 sheet.

See the Copying and Printing page for complete information.

Generally up to 10% or one chapter, whichever is greater. See the Copyright Information link on the library website.

Yes. Both copiers (Upper and Main Levels) will scan in black and white, the main level copier will also scan in colour. Scans can be e-mailed as an attachment, or saved to a USB drive. Please note that the same copyright restrictions apply to scanned materials as to photocopied materials.

Note: If you're scanning something in colour and/or high resolution on the copier/scanner, it's best to save it to a USB drive, as large files can take several days to arrive by e-mail, if they arrive at all.

There is also an Epson flatbed scanner attached to a computer near the windows. Use this if you want to edit your scan with Photoshop.

Here are basic instructions for using it.

A) Scan to a PDF

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat
  2. From the "File" Menu select "Create" and then choose "PDF from Scanner".
  3. Follow the on screen instructions

B) To Scan a Picture

  1. Open Adobe Photoshop
  2. From the "File" Menu select "Import" and then choose "WIA Support".
  3. Follow the on screen instructions

Troubleshooting Tips (if above instructions do not work):

  1. Ensure that the scanner's USB cable is plugged into the computer.  If it is not, plug the USB cable into one of the computer's USB ports (the ports on the back seem more reliable than those on the front).
  2. Ensure that the scanner is turned on (green light next to the word "Power" on the front of the scanner).  If the power is not on, check the power switch on the right side of the scanner and check to make sure the scanner is plugged in.

If the scanner still does not work, please submit a helpdesk request to the IT department using "www.twu.ca/help".
