Borrowing at Alloway Library

Everything you need to know about borrowing Alloway Library's print and media resources

Borrowing Limits + Loan Periods

Most items at Alloway Library have a 21-day loan period and most users can renew material up to 4 times online.

However, if someone else wants an item that is already on loan, the current borrower will be unable to renew the item. In some cases we will request that the material be returned sooner than the due date given at the time of check out or renewal. (See below for more information on Recalls.)

Our faculty have longer loan periods for most books but fewer online renewals.

If your library privileges are expiring soon, the loan period will be shortened to match the privilege expiry date.

Recalls

As a resource-sharing organization and community, Alloway Library strives to share important resources fairly.

If you have an item that another user wants to borrow and if you have had that item for more than 21 days, you will get an email asking you to return the material within the next 7 days. Call us if you need a bit of extra time, but be aware that you will be fined $1/day and your account will be blocked, if the material is kept beyond the recall due date.

If the material in question is in high-demand to support a particular course, your instructor can have the material placed on Reserve so that everyone in the class has reasonable access to the material.

Returns

There is an after-hours return slot at the front entry to Alloway Library. You can return material there anytime that the library is closed. When the library is open, drop your material into the return slot at the Borrower Services Counter.

Richmond Campus patrons may return library material by mail using the return label provided with your loan package.
