Borrowing at Alloway Library

Everything you need to know about borrowing Alloway Library's print and media resources

Your Library Card is Valuable

A TWU ID Card (with a barcode) or library card (for community and external users) is required to check out material.

You are responsible for all material borrowed with your card.

Lost or stolen cards should be reported to library staff.

Cards are non-transferable.

Damaged or altered cards will not be accepted for checking out material.

Graduation, withdrawal from the university, or termination of employment ends library privileges of students and employees but one can reapply for privileges as an alumni or community borrower.

Where do I get my library card?

Your TWU ID card with a barcode is your Library card. The barcode on your TWU ID allows you to borrow and place holds on print material from the library, as well as request material from other libraries.

  • If you do not have a TWU ID card (or barcode) but are entitled to one:
    • Current Undergrad Students: contact Student Life
    • Current Graduate Students: contact your program coordinator
    • Staff: contact Human Resources
    • Faculty: contact Holly Porra

A campus map is here.

Alumni may obtain a card from the Alumni Office on the second floor of the Reimer Student Centre.

  • Anyone with 15 credit hours is eligible for a TWU alumni card.
  • The card is free, but there is a charge for joining the Alumni Association.
  • Anyone with an alumni card can obtain library privileges for $15 per year.
  • The Alumni Office will send cards to the library for any alumni who cannot come in to their office during their 8-4:30 office hours.

Community borrowers may obtain a library card from the Borrower Services desk. Library privileges are $60 per year.

How do I activate my card's barcode?

For TWU ID card holders, the 14-digit barcode on your card is used for these services only:

Your barcode is used primarily for:

  • Ordering interlibrary loan material.
  • Placing holds on print material in the library’s collection.
  • Checking out physical material at the library.
  • Renewing checked-out material online.
  • Viewing your library account online

The barcode is not required to access electronic resources from off campus. Use your TWU username and password instead.

  • Undergraduate and graduate student barcodes are automatically uploaded to the library's system and are active if the student is enrolled in the current or following semester.

  • If you are a new staff or faculty member or if your barcode is not recognized by the library’s system, e-mail a photo or scan of your TWU ID card to and staff will create or update your library account. You may also talk with Borrower Services staff in the library or on the phone at 604-513-2023.
