Printing

Photocopiers/Scanners –

The library has two photocopier/scanners. One each on the:

  • Main level (near the Research Help Desk)
  • Upper level (near the elevator)

Options:

  • Free – Scan to e-mail or USB flash drive.
  • You can scan documents and e-mail them to yourself as a PDF (default), TIFF or XPS file from either photocopier.

Regular copying:

  • $.10 per copy
  • You’ll need to buy a copy card for $1, $5 or $10 (plus a $1 refundable deposit) at the Reserve Counter.
  • The main level copier takes coins.

Computer Printers –

  • Black and white $.08 per sheet (Single-sided is $.08 per page. Double-sided is $.04 per side.)
  • Colour - $.20 per sheet for 8.5 x 11; $.30 per sheet for 11 X 17.

Wireless Printing - You can print from you laptop to the printer named - library monochrome wireless. This PaperCut page has the instructions and apps you'll need.

Printing from your TWU computer account:

  • Log in to a library computer using your TWU username and password. It’s usually firstname.familyname and the password you were sent when you registered.
  • If your username and password don't work, ask IT Services for help.
  • Your TWU computer printing account will read $0.00 when you first log in. You can print down to about -$4.91 before you’ll need to buy a Top-Up card from the Reserve Counter. They cost $5 or $10.

Computer Printing Tips

  • If possible, choose double-sided printing. It will cut your printing costs in half.
  • Check to be sure your print job is going to the correct printer. Black and white should be the default, but sometimes the computer tries to send it to the colour printer.
  • If you need help, ask at the IT Help Desk, or, for basic help at the Reserve Counter or the Research Help Desk.
  • If the printer takes your money, but doesn’t print, e-mail Joel.Schwartz@twu.ca

The library and Trinity Western University are not responsible for users who violate copyright. Users are urged to follow the guidelines posted by the copiers to ensure their copying is compliant with current copyright law.

Trouble logging in to library databases from off-campus?

Here are some initial troubleshooting suggestions. Be sure to contact us if you're still having problems.

Locked account - If you've tried and failed to log in multiple times, you may contact IT's Public Assistance for help.

Is this a new problem?

If you've been able to log in from off campus, but suddenly access stops working, it could be a temporary problem. This sometimes happens with even the best online providers. Contact us to see if anyone else has reported a problem.

Are you still registered as a student, or employee? Call Circulation at  604-513-2023 or e-mail circ@twu.ca and they'll be able to tell you if your registration is current.

If you're still not able to access databases, try:

  • Using another browser, or

  • Clearing your browser's cache (see this WikiHow page for instructions).

Passwords - If you're having problems with your password, check out the Knowledge Base.

Can you log in on campus, but not at home? Or, can you log in to Moodle or the Student Portal successfully from off campus?

If yes, then it's probably not a password problem. It could be:

A Browser Problem - Sometimes an error page gets stuck in the browser's cache and won't let the browser access the correct live page. To clear your cache, see this WikiHow page

A Firewall Problem - If you are still having problems and are sure that your user name and password are correct, check to see if you are using a personal firewall and that it will allow an outgoing connection to the address twu.idm.oclc.org port 443 or 80 and that you also do not have your web browser connecting through your ISP's proxy server. This can be checked as follows:

  • Chrome - Settings -> Show advanced settings  -> Network (Change proxy settings) -> Connections (LAN settings)

  • Safari - Preferences -> Advanced -> Proxies -> Change Settings -> Uncheck all boxes

  • FireFox - Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network Tab -> Settings

  • IE 5.x/6.x - Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings -> Proxy Server

  • Opera 7.x - File -> Preferences -> Network -> Proxy Servers

If your browser is configured to use a proxy server you will need to either disable this option or configure the settings to "bypass" the proxy server for the address twu.idm.oclc.org. If you have personal firewall software or hardware then you can check to see if it is causing the problem by disabling it and try to log in again. If this works then you will need to check your firewall documentation or support site to allow outgoing browser connections to port 2048 of the address twu.idm.oclc.org

Finally, if you have a research project due soon and are having access problems, while IT/the library is figuring out what the problem is, contact infodesk@twu.ca and we may be able to help you with your research.

Accounts, Usernames & Passwords

While we're not trained in tech support, we do try to solve any problems we can before sending them to IT. if the problem is related to passwords, there's little we can do, so it's best to send them to IT on the lower level of Mattson or have them submit a HelpDesk request.

A fairly regular complaint is that they're unable to log in to library databases from off campus. If they're able to log in to the Student Portal when they're on campus, but are only having problems off campus, the problem may be a page with an error message stuck in their browser cache. The solution in this case is to have them clear their browser cache. The method of clearing their cache varies depending on the browser and system software. This page on WikiHow shows how to clear the cache on many different browsers/systems.

This page describes how to log in from off campus. If that doesn't help, go to the Tech Support page to report it.

Scanning/Photocopying

The library has two photocopier/scanners. One each on the:

  • Main level (near the Research Help Desk)
  • Upper level (near the elevator)

Options:

  • Free – Scan to e-mail or USB flash drive.
  • You can scan documents and e-mail them to yourself as a PDF (default), TIFF or XPS file from either photocopier.

Regular copying:

  • $.10 per copy
  • You’ll need to buy a copy card for $1, $5 or $10 (plus a $1 refundable deposit) at the Reserve Counter.
  • The main level copier takes coins. Note that it will not take the new $1 and $2 coins. They can get change at the Reserve counter.

Photocopying/Scanning Tips

  • If they're copying something small like a driver's licence, they may need to cover it with a plain white piece of paper as sometimes the copier fails to pick up smaller objects.
  • If they're scanning something in colour and/or high resolution on the copier/scanner, it's best to save it to a USB drive, as large files can take several days to arrive by e-mail, if they arrive at all.
  • The scanner on the main level will also scan in colour and at various resolutions. It is also possible to set to scan a mix of photos and text or just photos.
