Printing from a Student Account

Printers

Black & White Printing

  1. This should be the default printer, although occasionally it a computer will default to the colour printer.
  2. It costs approximately $0.08/sheet. Double-sided printing cuts this in half, as accounts are charged by the sheet rather than by the side.

Colour Printing

  1. Colour printing costs $0.20 per 8.5 x 11sheet and $0.30 per 11 x 17 sheet.
  2. It is possible to print colour double-sided, although there's no discount for doing so. Choose the option in the colour printer print dialogue box.
  3. Documents created in Photoshop, InDesign, or Illustrator, should be saved as PDFs before sending them to the printer. That allows students to preview the document and ensure that everything appears right before printing.
  4. It is possible to print 11 x 17 documents on the colour printer. You may need to manually choose the correct tray to ensure it prints on the correct sized paper.

Student Printing Accounts

  1. Each student has an a printing account attached to their student account.
  2. The first time they log in, this account will read: $0.00, but they can print until it reaches -$4.96 (approximately). At this point, they will need to purchase a $5.00 or $10.00 Top Up card from the Reserve Counter.
  3. Note that this free $5.00 in their accounts is a one-time only credit. Accounts are not refilled at the beginning of a term or school year.

Printing Tips

  1. If the printer takes a student's money, but doesn’t print, e-mail Joel.Schwartz@twu.ca
  2. Documents that are sent as attachments by e-mail or which are accessed from MyCourses, must be downloaded and opened in the appropriate program on the computer before they can be printed.
  3. When transferring documents from other computers to the library computers for printing, it's always a good idea to save them as PDF files on the computer that created them. That will help to reduce problems of font substitutions reformatting a document, if the font is not available on the library computers.
  4. Documents that have been scanned on the library copier and transferred to a student account by e-mail or USB drive, can be printed double-sided for half the price it would cost to photocopy to paper.

Printing / Photocopying - Changes 2016-08

The new coin op is now up and running.

  • It takes all coins (except pennies)
  • Your TWU ID card can also be used.  Slide card in with strip to the right and then follow instructions on the display.

Joel has added accounts on the computer for each library staff

  • When you insert your ID card into the coin op you will choose Personal,  OR Library if used for library purposes
  • Your personal account starts as all patron accounts do with -$0.00 and going to -$5.00 before you will need to add money
  • Credit can be added by either inserting coins into the coin op or buying a TopUp card

Things to Note

  • All copies are currently being charged at 10 cents
  • You must have a valid TWU ID card with the barcode printed on the card (as opposed to cards with the old barcode stickers)
  • Faculty or staff other than library  will need to request an account from IT by putting in a Help Desk request
  • Guests will use coins for copying.  Printing will be on the honour system
  • Joel will be making some ‘dummy’ cards for selected usage such as our student workers at circ if they’re doing some copying for the library and possibly the Reference desk but otherwise all library staff will be using their own ID cards.
