Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL) Library Resources

  

Language/linguistics is the major focus of the CanIL Library with strong sub-foci in Bible translation, missions, literacy/education, sociolinguistics, bi- and multi-lingualism, language and culture acquisition, language teaching, language survey, linguistic analysis, discourse analysis, semantics and lexicography. As well, there are resources of interest to TESOL students, education students and communications majors. A substantial section of the library is dedicated to language-specific materials. 

Location:

The Canada Institute of Linguistics Library is a print-only library located in the CanIL Harvest Centre. It offers a reading room and study space for the use of its patrons.

Hours:

9 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday. Library resources can usually be accessed in the evening and on weekends as well.

Locating Materials:

  • The online catalogue is at CanIL Library Catalogue
  •  All of CanIL’s journals/periodicals are print. To determine which volumes and issues of a particular journal are available, do a title search for the journal name. 
  • There are almost 12,000 journal articles catalogued in the database (local call number is ‘PER shelf’) . Search by title and/or author of the article.
  • Journals may not be borrowed. However, students may copy (10 cents/page; 15 cents double-sided), or scan materials (free).
